Starting on 2 February and every Thursday between 7-9pm Ninja Tune & Solid Steel will be joining the likes of Clash, Data Transmission, Moshi Moshi, Ross Allen, Dazed + Confused, Stool Pigeon and Wichita in launching the new London radio station Strongroom Alive. The Solid Steel show will be presented live by Coldcut, alongside DJ Food and DK, with special guest mixes, interviews and competitions. Tune in at Strongroom.fm and Freeview channel 111. Mixes from the show will be available to download the following day from solidsteel.net and Soundcloud as part of the weekly Solid Steel show.

Coldcut, Bang On session, Shut Up and Dance

Solid Steel in association with Serato (11th May) Coldcut open with the strange and wonderful Connan Mockasin and slide effortlessly into classic Issac Hayes and the Trojan sounds of Vin Gordon. It's more reggae from Donovan Carless and Roy Panton, latin licks from Ray Lugo and original rap from the Last Poets. Then we hand over for a session from Big Dada artist Bang On freestyling over Souls of Mischief and Slick Rick, plus tracks from his new album (Sic). Cassius, Dirg Gerner and Fulgeance remixed by Dorian Concept close the first hour.

We welcome the legendary Shut Up and Dance for hour 2. They have been pioneers of UK dance music for over 22 years crossing through hip hop, acid house, rave and jungle with their own self titled label. Still doing it in 2012 with a new EP 'The only way is Hackney', we get an exclusive mix featuring tracks from the EP alongside Aquasky, Pyramid and Yoof.

Cymatic Frequencies II by DK - Part 1

DK returns with 'Cymatic Frequencies II' and as before it's another AV mix. This is Part 1 of 'Best of 2011', taking personal favourites from his mixes this year and adding suitable and sometimes breathtaking visuals to compliment the audio. This Video Mixtape includes a few of the artists Original video's but in most cases visuals have been sourced from animation, CGI, Short Films, archive footage and edited to each track in the mix. Some of the 2011 musical highlights include Africa Hitech, Machinedrum, Peverelist, Skream, Pearson Sound, Thundercat, Michael Kiwanuka and the Stepkids, plus there's a few dips into the archive with Wayne Smith, Tribe of Issachar, Herbie Hancock, Burial and Vangelis.

Cymatic Frequencies II by DK - Part 2

We continue with the second part of Cymatic Frequencies II by DK, the Video Mixtape reviewing some of his favourite mixes from 2011 with added visuals. Using more Original Videos from the artist this time and the quality of the music is equally as good as Part 1. It's a sombre start with Gil Scott-Heron RIP, followed by James Blake and hip hop from Paul White, Danny Brown and Shabazz Palaces. Ninja Tune feature with Mr Scruff, Toddla T, Raffertie and Fink, with Big Dada represented by Wiley & Offshore. There's 2 from Martyn on Brainfeeder, Zed Bias features 3 times and it's big club tracks from Joe Goddard, Julio Bashmore and Fourtet. Plus there's a few classics from Liquid Liquid, Radiohead and Har You Percussion group to close a visual feast.
